All classes are conducted in an Adult Learning Environment. This means that YOU are responsible for your learning. This means being on time for classes, bringing everything you need for the day, and of course being READY TO LEARN.

Course Information & Advice

Course information and advice is available in a number of ways. Visit the Administration desk within SMIT, where you can find printed information regarding all courses and a current timetable and a schedule of fees. If the information you require is not on hand please ask the Administration Staff for assistance.

MARINE RADIO OPERATORS CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY
MROCP

The Northern Territory Marine Act requires that persons in charge of vessels in NT waters meet prescribed certification requirements.


The Certificate
The Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency is a pre-requisite qualification required by the

The Course
The MROCP course offered at Seafood & Maritime Industries Training Ltd. is delivered full-time over 2 days. The exam is on the second day. SMIT is approved by Australian Maritime College (AMC) to conduct training and invigilate examinations. However, the actual assessment and issue of certificate is performed by the AMC Australian Maritime College.

At the end of the course, a candidate will be required to:

1. Demonstrate an ability to use correct radiotelephone operating procedures, in particular those relating to distress, urgency and safety messages;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the operation and controls of typical marine radio equipment;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of simple maintenance practices required to keep a marine radio installation in good working order, including the repair of minor faults;
and
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the regulations applicable to radiotelephone ship stations.

The assessment consists of multiple choice answers and written short answer responses. Conducted by The Australian Maritime College (AMC)
The minimum age for the issue of a MROCP is 16 years.
Radio Handbooks MUST be purchased before course from SMIT front office.
