All classes are conducted in an adult learning environment. This means that YOU are responsible for your learning, being on time for classes, bringing everything you need for the day, and being READY TO LEARN.

Course Information & Advice

Course information and advice is available in a number of ways. Visit the Administration desk within SMIT, where you can find printed information regarding all courses and a current timetable and a schedule of fees. If the information you require is not on hand please ask the Administration Staff for assistance.

Outside SMIT you can request information via telephone, fax or email.

Elements of Shipboard Safety - ESS
Course Timeline

The Northern Territory Marine Act requires that persons in charge of vessels in NT waters meet prescribed certification requirements. The Elements of Shipboard Safety Certificate comprises of 3 units:

Basic Fire Fighting on Board a Vessel 1 day

Facilitated & assessed by Accrete Pty Ltd

Personal Survival Technique - 2 days
Facilitated & assessed by Seafood & Maritime Industries Training Ltd

Senior First Aid 2 days
Facilitated & assessed by St John Ambulance

If any of the above 3 elements have already been achieved, and approved by Marine Safety Branch, please supply us with a copy of the certificate and this will be credited towards full Elements of Shipboard Safety certification.
